Kate Rogers is from Rochester, Minnesota and has sung in a wide array of settings. Her ability to pick up songs quickly has helped her to feel comfortable in many types of musical contexts and on stage. Kate has performed as a soloist in oratorios, conquering florid passages in the highest tessitura and as a chorister in large and small ensembles singing everything from Bach to Whitaker; always a strong voice her section. She can belt out standards along with a big band, and her voice is well suited for small ensembles of singers and musicians performing classical, jazz, or gospel. Kate has performed for audiences of just a few, to broadcast audiences of several million. She has had opportunities over the years to sing with accomplished musicians and ensembles such as Bernice Johnson Reagan with Sweet Honey in the Rock, Garrison Keillor’s Prairie Home Companion, the Choral Arts Ensemble, the Rochester Chorale, and successful acts like the Brad Boice Band. Kate has performed onstage locally at Rochester Civic Theatre, Z Theatre, and Rochester Repertory Theatre. She is always looking for new music and theatre avenues to explore.
Kate brings a high standard of performance and dedication to any project and her down to earth approach makes her a joy to work with. Her soprano is warm, rich, and well suited for many composers; the bold and gratifying lines of Mozart, the romantic and passionate arias of Bellini, or the spellbinding, mystical melodies of Faure. In the choir, Kate is a leader both as a singer and actress, and has been a robust voice in many ensembles. Kate's jazz singing could be described as agile, innocent, and expressive, and could be compared with artists like Eva Cassidy, Natalie Cole, or Diana Krall. Her sense of rhythm is innate making her a solid addition to a combo or band. She follows well and loves sharing the spotlight.
